When Jamaica was younger, a housewife would sit around her sewing machine all day long sewing for her family and sometimes friends. She would then use her “sod-iron” which is placed near burning coal to be heated, to iron the newly sewn garments. There would be times when she had to work late, which wouldn’t be a problem because she would light her ‘Home Sweet Home’ lamp and keep on working. The same or the following day she would shine the floors of her home, using her coconut brush, keeping it exactly as the lamp states it ‘Home Sweet Home’
