Derrick Simon, estate manager at Hope Botanic Gardens, shows a Century palm that is in bloom at the reacreational park. According to the Natural History Museum of Jamaica, the palm, which has the scientific name Corypha umbraculifera, is native to Sri Lanka and India and blooms once in its lifetime and then dies. It tends to bloom after 30-60 years.
